Welcome!
Happy to be here!
Hello, I am Dana Schwarzkopf, a teacher who has been living and working overseas for most of my adult life.
After graduating from Valparaiso University with a BA in Broadcast Journalism, I began my career teaching English in Puebla, Mexico. I had two classes of 32-35 students. I saw each class all day every other day.
I hadn't planned on growing up and becoming a teacher, but after the first year, I was hooked. I spent another year in Mexico, applied to a graduate program in Education and then went to Neuendettlesau, Germany to spend one year in a German Gymnasium as the "Native English" teacher for the Englsih classes grades 5-13.
From Germany I headed back to school at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to enroll in a Masters and initial teaching certification program. After graduation I headed to Ankara, Turkey to teacher pre-k and grade 5 English. I have been teaching overseas ever since.
I have taught elementary school (ESL and regular classroom) in Bangkok, Thailand, Nanjing, China and Bucharest, Romania. I am currently teaching middle school ESL in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Teaching overseas has afforded me not only the opportunity to learn from each culture in which I have lived, but also from each student I have taught and from my co-workers from various countries of the world.
Each new place is a new adventure of people, cultures and life.
