In order to create my TPACK video I first needed to really think about TPACK and how it fit together with what I know, what I want my students to know and what is the best way to get them to learn.

I work mostly with students who are acquiring language and have spent a lot of time to get conceptual meaning across to them when the words just are not there.

As technology has become more powerful and more varied, its use has created many more doors that can be opened by me or my students when we are trying to access new information.

I decided to show a tool that I have been using for a while, one that I began using this past year, and one that I just discovered and am looking forward to using with my students this year.

I had to upload my finished video to Youtube so I could link it to this website.  Although I have a Youtube account, I had never uploaded anything before.  The process of thinking about and creating this video helped me realize that I have been incorporating TPACK in my teaching without really thinking about it.  Now, I need to use it purposefully.

This is not my worksheet, I found it on-line.  However, I listen to my nieces and nephews complain about hating to do book reports and writing the least amount possible.  This is from kids who love reading.  How can the teacher get the same information in a way that is more interesting to represent the knowledge learned.  I think using glogster could be very effective.
The worksheet asks for information on "early years" and influences from this time on the adult, information about the person's main accomplishments, the person's goals, whether or not he/she was successful and influences on the community, and finally, the student is asked for his/her opinion of the subject and whether or not to recommend the book.

I believe a glog, with the subject in the middle and links to audio and visual information about the subject can give deeper understanding.  The student can video him/herself talking about the early years and the influences and add that clip to the glog.  Or, there could be a link to a website that lists the accomplishments of the subject. They might find a song, or artwork that gives the same message.  I think this would take more time for the students to produce, however, they could have a better understanding of their subjects in the process.  This maybe one way to demonstrating understanding of their reading.  For some students, being able to show visually or tell orally will better showcase what they do know.   This isn't a writing assignment, but an assignment to demonstrate their understanding of the subject of their reading.
